Tutorial: Photos in a grunge look

Grunge doesn’t only refer to a style of music, it’s also a stylistic direction in image processing with Photoshop, where the image material is shown as old and dirty.
Since the program itself produces rather clean results, we need textures to give us the grime we desire. These require only a few steps to be adjusted to the grunge look.

Tutorial: Stripe look

A mixture of illustration and photo material is a current trend in which the stripe look is used quite frequently. Usually people will direct you towards custom brushes and shapes, but actually Photoshop itself offers a number of options to generate stripes. For that we apply little used filters like „Wave“.

In a new document, use the Gradient tool and the Shift key to make a gradient from the top to the bottom with the options Foreground-Background and Linear Style. The colors you choose determine the colors of the stripes which we’ll now create with the Wave filter. Read more »

10 tips for Photoshop and Camera Raw – neutralize color casts

Extreme case: Snow
Even though the sun is a little lower in winter, a white snow cover will strongly reflect the light. This can quickly create a blue cast, which can be easily corrected with Photoshop or Camera Raw.
Extreme case: Candle light
If a room is only illuminated by a weak source of light, the sensor has a hard time finding a neutral grey spot, since the scene is too dark. This results in a red cast. Read more »
